Better Images of AI

Image series created for Better Images of AI’s library.

Type “Artificial Intelligence” into your image search engine. Notice a pattern? Humanoid robots, glowing blue brains, outstretched hands, abstract circuitry… you get the idea. These images are misleading, unrealistic, and worst of all, they’re boring.

Better Images of AI is an organisation dedicated to this exact issue. For this project, I created an image series to submit to their library — an alternate repository for more realistic depictions of AI systems, applications and impacts. These images can be downloaded and used by anyone under a Creative Commons BY 4.0 license.

The series consists of three collage-based artworks that challenge typical AI imagery. Each piece explores a different aspect of AI and its sociocultural impacts: Agentic AI, companion chatbots, and the phenomenon of “AI slop”. Using visual metaphor inspired by academic discourse, historical art references and internet culture, the series aims to spark curiosity and critical reflection about the technology.
